Sun Valley Community School graduates will receive their commencement address from Chase Josey, the two-time Olympic snowboarder (2018, 2022), U.S. Snowboard Team member, and Sun Valley Community School alum. Sun Valley Community School’s Class of 2022 commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Forty-one seniors will graduate.

A native of the Wood River Valley, Chase graduated from Sun Valley Community School in 2013. He joined the SVCS community at the beginning of his junior year because he wanted to pursue snowboarding at the highest levels; he knew that the Sun Valley Ski Academy at Sun Valley Community School would help him balance his academic pursuits with his competitive snowboard dreams.

As the school celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its Sun Valley Ski Academy this year, it is especially significant that one of its first SVSA student-athletes returns to share his experiences and his successes.

“Chase is certainly a shining example of our mission in action. He has dedicated himself to the pursuit of his competitive dreams. He has faced challenges, has called upon a hard-earned confidence built through years of training and preparation, and he is certainly making an impact on his sport and on the many young aspiring athletes here and around the world. We are honored to have him be our 2022 Commencement speaker,” Head of School Ben Pettit said.
