52nd Annual Race

Get ready, Nordic enthusiasts—the Zions Bank Boulder Mountain Tour (BMT) is set to return on Saturday, February 1, 2025, offering skiers another chance to tackle the pristine Harriman Trail in Idaho’s Sawtooth National Forest. As one of the premier cross-country ski races in the Western United States, this event attracts everyone from World Cup-caliber athletes to costume-clad recreational skiers.
This isn’t just a race; it’s a celebration of community, tradition, and the thrill of gliding through snow-covered landscapes. With its 34-kilometer Full Boulder and 15-kilometer Charley Course Half Boulder, the BMT offers something for everyone, from seasoned Olympians to first-timers looking for an unforgettable winter adventure.

The Competition and the Community
Each year, the BMT draws a kaleidoscope of competitors, divided into waves based on skill level. Elite men and women lead the pack, while others embrace the “tour” spirit of the event—some even donning creative costumes for the new Best Costume Award. With entries capped at 800 for the Full Boulder and 200 for the Half Boulder, the race promises an exclusive and exhilarating experience.
Beyond the competition, the BMT thrives on community support. Over 300 volunteers and organizations like the Blaine County Recreation District, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, and Galena Backcountry Ski Patrol pitch in to make the event seamless and enjoyable for all.

Perks, Prizes, and Awards
Your race entry is more than a ticket to the starting line. Participants receive:
• A 2025 BMT SAUCE race hat
• Swag bags packed with sponsor goodies
• A chance to win raffle prizes, including skis, boots, and training gear
• Shuttles, on-course refreshments, and post-race snacks
The race also celebrates the achievements of its participants, recognizing the fastest, oldest, and youngest racers, as well as wave winners and those who earn the Jon Engen Perpetual Award for the most significant year-over-year improvement.

Après Ski Like a Champion
The festivities don’t stop at the finish line. From 5:30 to 8 p.m., The Argyros Theater in Ketchum will host the BMT Awards Bash. With food, music, and raffle prizes galore, it’s the perfect way to cap off the day—but don’t leave early, because you must be present to claim those coveted raffle items.

Looking Back: A Legacy of Excellence
The Boulder Mountain Tour has been a highlight of the Nordic skiing calendar for over five decades. The 2024 race, held on February 3, saw elite athletes and enthusiasts alike tackle the Harriman Trail. Changes made to enhance the experience included adjusted start times and divided waves for the Half Boulder, ensuring smoother integration with racers already on the course.
The 2023 champions, Peter Wolter of Hailey and Hannah Rudd of the Bridger Ski Foundation Pro Team, set high standards with times of 1:17:55 and 1:26:27, respectively. Their performances underscore the competitive spirit of this storied event.
Save the Date
Whether you’re aiming for the podium, chasing a personal best, or simply soaking in the camaraderie of the ski community, the 52nd annual Zions Bank Boulder Mountain Tour is an event not to be missed. With its blend of challenging courses, community spirit, and festive après-ski atmosphere, the BMT remains a beloved tradition.
