We’re so happy to be back this year! We have a couple new faces to the Blaine County Bug Crew, so we are going to introduce ourselves. We have Melody McHan, Kaitlyn Denning, Chris Romero, Chase Norman, and Alvero Sanchez. We are super excited to help you guys here in Blaine County kick some noxious weed hiny. Next up we will be explaining what we do, how we do it, and what to do if you see an infestation of any noxious weeds.
We find noxious weeds that are not native to the region and we use bugs that only feed onthose types of noxious weeds. We also monitor the sites yearly. We have over 100 sites that need to be monitored every year. We measure using a Daubenmire frame to look at how well the bugs have destroyed the noxious plants.
To spot a noxious infestation, one has to first know what an infestation looks like. Forexample, one of the most common noxious weed infestations is Canada thistle. To spot Canadathistle, one has to look for a green wide prickly leaf. Once one has spotted the infestation, one can contact one of the bug crews from your local counties. That will be provided at the end of this article.
Here’s to a great year ahead of us all with fewer noxious weeds. With the help of thecommunity we’ll be able to find more noxious weed infestations to help bring the landscape back to its native glory. We would like to thank you all for your continued support. If you have any noxious weeds on your property, or know of someone who does, please call Morgan Baird at (208) 788-5543, ext. 1136.
