“DACA [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] is staying! Look, turn on the news! Turn on the news!” My grandma laughed with joy.
I couldn’t believe it. I did as I was told and turned on the news, shocked, relieved and about ready to burst out in tears.
This was June 18.
Now, I am here, the beginning of July, excited for what my future could hold as an undocumented student even while living in a very Republican state.
After hearing that DACA remains in place, I began to brainstorm ideas with former Nosotros United members about creating a fund specifically for undocumented families and students here in Idaho. This could include DACA renewal scholarships and/or a stimulus-like check for families that are in need during this difficult time.
We’ve been working alongside one another, tossing ideas left and right, these past few days, trying to figure out what requirements would fit well into this idea we’ve got brewing inside of our minds. And although the lines are blurry in some places, we are excited about what’s to come for this fund, and for DACA especially.
I can’t even explain how important it is to include all immigrants into our community and I know this program will do just that for Idaho. Because home is here! We are here to stay.

¡Enciende las noticias!” Mi abuela se hechó a reír de alegría.
No lo podía creer. Hice lo que me dijo y encendí las noticias, sorprendida, aliviada y lista para estallar en lagrimas.
Esto fue el 18 de junio.
Ahora, estoy aquí, a principios de julio, emocionado por lo que mi futuro podría tener como estudiante indocumentado, incluso mientras vivíendo en un estado muy Republicano.
Después de escuchar que DACA permanece en su lugar, comencé a intercambiar ideas con ex miembros de Nosotros United sobre la creación de un fondo específicamente para familias y estudiantes indocumentados aquí en Idaho. Esto podría incluir becas de renovación de DACA y/o un cheque de estímulo para familias indocumentados que lo necesitan durante este momento difícil.
Hemos estado trabajando junto a otro, lanzando ideas de izquierda a derecha, estos últimos días tratando de descubrir qué requisitos encajarían bien en esta idea que tenemos en mente. Y aunque las líneas son borrosas en algunos lugares, estamos entusiasmadas con lo que vendrá para este fondo y para DACA, especialmente.
Ni siquiera puedo explicar lo importante que es incluir a todos los inmigrantes en nuestra comunidad y sé que este programa hará exactamente eso para Idaho. Porque nuestro hogar esta aqui! Estamos aquí para quedarnos.
