The year 2019 may be remembered as the year when people, here and around the world, began to more clearly understand the urgency and cataclysmic impacts of our climate crisis. Communities are entering 2020 with a determination to cut back the human impact on our global climate, to limit its most dire consequences, and to find ways that we can adapt to the changes.
The Hailey Climate Action Coalition, focusing on the wide spectrum of solutions to the impacts of the climate crisis, is planning to showcase local innovations, ideas and actions as part of our celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the beginning of the modern environmental movement.
In Hailey, celebration of Earth Day will take place on April 22, 2020. Throughout the Valley, we will expand to become EarthWeek through Saturday, April 25, where Valley-wide businesses, schools, governing bodies, nonprofits, individuals, churches and others will be featured to address possible solutions to global warming and climate change.
Opportunities for sharing during this week will kick off with the EarthWeek Home and Garden Expo, at partnering Campion Ice House on Saturday, April 18. This daylong event will feature vendors of the latest technology and innovation, informational booths, food vendors, fun and demonstrations. Information and registration forms will be available through our Expo partner, The Chamber of Hailey & the Wood River Valley, at HaileyIdaho.com.
Wood River Valley groups or individuals, whether participating in the Expo or not, who wish to share climate change solutions and/or activities throughout the remainder of the week, April 19-25, can find information and a registration form at HaileyCAC.org or contact us at HCAC2030@gmail.com for more information or questions. Valley restaurants interested in promoting local and organic menu items using local foods and/or sustainable practices will also be highlighted throughout the week.
