A devastating head-on collision on U.S. Highway 26 claimed the lives of two drivers and left a passenger seriously injured Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 14, 2025.
The crash occurred around 3:13 p.m. near milepost 213, east of Fish Creek Reservoir Road. According to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, a 55-year-old Idaho Falls man driving a silver 2014 Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line into northbound traffic. His vehicle collided head-on with a blue 2021 Toyota 4Runner driven by a 62-year-old woman from Kuna, who had a 38-year-old passenger.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was airlifted to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello with serious injuries. Authorities confirmed that all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The accident caused significant damage to both vehicles and blocked the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 26 for approximately four hours as emergency crews responded. Idaho State Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
