On Sunday, May 15, at approximately 2 a.m., Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a bicycle-versus-bicycle collision on the bike path near Warm Springs Road in Ketchum.

Crash scene investigation determined that Cole Ross Wells, age 33, of Hailey, was riding his bicycle southeast on the bike path headed into Ketchum from Warm Springs with his headlamp light on when an oncoming vehicle with its headlights on made it difficult to see. Wells collided with Reed Spencer Stokes, age 31, also of Hailey, who was riding his bicycle without a light northwest on the bike path. The riders clipped handlebars as they attempted to pass each other, sending both Wells and Stokes to the ground.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet. Stokes was transported via ground ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center and later by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, with serious injuries. Wells declined medical treatment for a minor injury.
