The Blaine County School District Board of Trustees will present a conversation with Jamie Vollmer, an author, businessman and lawyer whose message provides an outstanding opportunity for educators and the communities they serve to build trust and respect for each other and work together to provide a quality education for every one of our students. ‘The Niceties’

Company of Fools will present “The Niceties,” by Eleanor Burgess, with Claudia McCain and Alexis Ulrich, directed by COF producing director Scott Palmer. When an ambitious young black student meets with her esteemed white professor to go over a paper the student is writing about the American Revolution, the women engage in a discussion about who gets to tell the real story of America. It doesn’t take long for a conversation about grammar and punctuation to move into dangerous territory for which neither is prepared. Snowshoe With A Ranger

Free weekly Snowshoe with a Ranger tours run through March. Participants will meet on the porch of Galena Lodge before taking a 1.5-mile, 2-hour tour exploring the history of mining at Galena Lodge and the winter ecology and tracking of the snowy landscape. St. Luke’s Brown Bag

Today’s Brown Bag Lunch Talk will discuss physical therapy and osteoporosis, with Kacey Fairfield, physical therapist. Fairfield will discuss how physical therapy has been proven to be an effective nonsurgical treatment to help reduce the risk of the onset of osteoporosis, and to restore bone mass, slow down bone loss, and build surrounding muscle mass to protect us when diagnosis occurs. In collaboration with the I Have A Dream Foundation of Idaho, The Community Library welcomes Dr. Alisha Moreland-Capuia, who was an original “dreamer” and will share her story of overcoming adversity and the power of education. Moreland-Capuia is the executive director of Oregon Health & Science University’s Avel Gordly Center for Healing and an assistant professor of psychiatry. She is also the co-founder of The Capuia Foundation, whose mission is to build a sustainable economy through healthcare, education and agriculture in Angola. This program will be live streamed during and after the event.
‘Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf’

Sun Valley Museum of Art (SVMoA) will present the documentary, “Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf,” which will immerse viewers in Oudolf’s work and takes us inside his creative process, from his beautifully abstract sketches, to theories on beauty, to the ecological implications of his ideas. Intimate discussions take place through all fours seasons in Piet’s own gardens at Hummelo, and on visits to his signature public works in New York, Chicago, and the Netherlands, as well as to the far-flung locations that inspire his genius, including desert wildflowers in west Texas and post-industrial forests in Pennsylvania. $10 member / $12 nonmember. Winter Bird Walk

Tax Assistance

Blaine County residents with household incomes of less than $66,000 per year can get free income tax preparation assistance. IRS-certified volunteers will be available every Saturday until April 11. The preparation assistance is part of the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and is spearheaded by local resident Courtney Noble, who ran the United Way of King County’s free income tax preparation campaign in Seattle for several years.
