The Hailey Public Library is launching Classic Flicks, a monthly series of free screenings on the second Thursday of each month. The series will kick off on Thursday, January 11 at 6 p.m. at Town Center West with a 1941 classic film noir starring Humphrey Bogart as private detective Sam Spade. The movie is filled with murder and intrigue and is based on a 1930 novel by Dashiell Hammett.
“People love classic movies so we thought it would be fun to offer a series during the winter when it’s dark and cold at night,” commented Kristin Fletcher, the library’s programs manager. “The Classic Flicks series includes some of the first 25 films selected by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Film Registry for being ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.’”
Fletcher continued, “Future films will include Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn starring in a romantic comedy, Fred Astaire showing off his famous dance steps, and Henry Fonda starring in a drama about an Oklahoma family during the Dust Bowl, an iconic comedy, and more.”
