Limelight Hotel Bomb Threat

By Isaiah Frizzell

On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 19, what could have been a night of chaos turned into a heartwarming display of community spirit, thanks to quick actions by local authorities and a helping hand from the Argyros Performing Arts Center.

Around 7:11 p.m., a bomb threat was called into the Limelight Hotel. The situation prompted a full evacuation of the building, with hotel guests and staff instructed to leave immediately as first responders secured the area. While uncertainty lingered, the Argyros Performing Arts Center, located just across the street, opened its doors to welcome the displaced guests.

For over two hours, evacuees found safety, comfort, and even refreshments at the Argyros, which transformed into a temporary refuge. Fortunately, the bomb threat turned out to be simply that, a threat, and no person or structure was damaged. Many thanks go out to the dedicated EMT’s, police officers and firefighters of the Valley for their apt and punctual first responder efficacy.

The Argyros’ response showcased the vitality of community spirit that runs through Blaine County. Eight deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, two Sun Valley Police Department officers, and a Ketchum Fire Department team quickly mobilized to assess and secure the area. The Twin Falls Bomb Squad and Sun Valley Police provided additional support.

Sheriff Steve Harkins highlighted the swift response by his deputies. Roads were closed, and a perimeter was established to ensure everyone’s safety while officers cleared the Limelight Hotel and its roof. By 10:15 p.m., authorities had determined there was no active threat, and evacuees were allowed to return to the hotel.

Despite the disruption, Limelight Hotel General Manager John Curnow expressed pride in his staff and gratitude for the community.

The spotlight shone brightest on the Argyros Performing Arts Center, whose staff stepped up without hesitation. With warmth and hospitality, they turned what could have been an unsettling night into a moment of solidarity. Guests and evacuees expressed gratitude for the gesture, with many praising Ketchum’s close-knit nature. “This is why I love this town,” shared another evacuee. “When something happens, people step up and help each other.”

As the investigation into the bomb threat continues, the incident serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of our community. While the threat proved to be unfounded, the collaboration between local authorities, businesses, and residents ensured that the safety and well-being of everyone involved remained paramount.
