Men’s Second Chance Living House (MSCL) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring generosity that improves health and well-being in the community. This generous grant, to be distributed over a two-year period, will support vital programs at MSCL’s two sober living homes in Hailey.
Every year, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation awards community grant funds to local nonprofit organizations providing programs and services aimed at improving the health and well-being of the Wood River Valley community. Grants are given to locally based nonprofit organizations working to address the community’s greatest health needs.
“Men’s Second Chance Living is working to address two of the top health priorities identified by the St. Luke’s Wood River Community Health Needs Assessment including access to substance abuse prevention services and addressing the high cost of living through housing,” said Megan Tanous, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation’s chief development officer.
Men’s Second Chance Living House proven programs focus on “four R’s” toward successful reintegration:

  • Re-cover with our Sober Living Program that offers assistance with basic needs including shelter, food, clothing, furnishings, peer support, and group recovery support services.
Re-build through a Matched Savings Account Program, Financial Literacy Program, and Physical Health Program.
Re-store through medical, dental, vision assistance, behavioral health services, and a nutrition assistance program.
Re-enter with educational support and technical skills training and assistance.

Support from St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation enables residents to actively engage with programs to maintain sobriety, regain their health and independence, improve employability, and save money, all with the aim of successful reintegration into the community.
“We are incredibly thankful to the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation for this grant and their continuing support,” said Sonya Wilander, executive director of Men’s Second Chance Living House. “Their belief in our programs is absolutely vital to helping our residents succeed in the goal of reintegration to family, friends, work, and community. Integration leads to a healthy community, reduces recidivism, connects fathers with children, sons with parents, and men with partners. Reintegration boosts self-confidence, the establishment of responsible routines, active involvement in the recovery community, and achieving personal life goals.”

About Men’s Second Chance Living House (MSCL): Men’s Second Chance Living House is a nonprofit organization based in Hailey, Idaho, dedicated to providing support and resources to individuals seeking to rebuild their lives. MSCL offers a safe and supportive environment where individuals can access essential recovery services and opportunities for personal growth, with the goal of helping them reintegrate into the community as productive and empowered citizens. When MSCL House opened its first sober living house in 2018, it addressed a pressing need to serve and support men in recovery from substance abuse disorder. In October 2022, the organization realized the goal of providing more sober living and support by opening a second sober house that was at capacity within eight weeks of welcoming the first resident. We continue to operate with a waitlist and have provided 10,263 bed nights to more than 51 men since 2018, with 3,036 bed nights in 2022 alone.
About St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation (SLWRF): St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation, an independent non-for-profit, works to inspire generosity that improves health and well-being in the Wood River Valley community. Our organization began with an act of generosity.
The Wood River Valley community came together to build and equip a new hospital. Since the hospital’s opening, the foundation has greatly expanded its efforts to develop community investment in the hospital and the services it provides. Our focus continues to be on enhancing patient care and community health, whether through advancing technological capabilities, developing innovative health and wellness programs, or enabling a greater scope of medical services to our community members.
