OUR VOICE COUNTS
As a local landlord and property owner who is redeveloping a property where the current tenants will have to relocate, there is a difficult and emotional aspect to this process. Alerting tenants that they will be required to relocate is a daunting task that no compassionate landlord enjoys. When I issued the six-month eviction notices at the end of last November, my focus was how to best assist the tenants with their transition. I knew the process of relocating was going to have its challenges. However, I quickly learned how many incredible individuals and organizations there are in our community who are here to provide their assistance. From nonprofit organizations to county officials, our Valley has no shortage of caring individuals who want to help and have volunteered to do so.
As a local community and family advocate for the Latin community, Herbert Romero is one of these helpful, caring individuals. I have become acquainted with Herbert through phone and in-person conversations. Herbert has been assisting the Hispanic tenants navigate this transition. As an advocate who can bridge the language barrier, he is able to keep me up to speed with their progress and pass along any questions the tenants might have.
An important aspect of our working together is encouraging the tenants to stay proactive in looking at various options for their housing solution. As I actively search for solutions and other housing options, I know Herbert is working with the tenants and helping them navigate challenges and answering questions they have.
With the shared common goal of making this transition as smooth as possible, Herbert’s suggestions are valued and his dedication to this cause is admirable. I respect Herbert’s can-do attitude and appreciate his willingness to help guide the tenants during this transition.
