Idaho’s voting districts are on track to become officially redistricted starting in 2022. Last week, the bipartisan Idaho Commission for Reapportionment approved two maps—one for federal congressional districts and one for state legislative districts—that place Blaine County in District 26 with Lincoln and Jerome counties.
Blaine County has been in a district with Camas, Gooding and Lincoln counties for 10 years. The districts are given a fresh look every 10 years after data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau has been calculated. Each legislative district has two representatives and one senator in the legislature. District 26 is currently represented by Reps. Muffy Davis and Sally Toone, and Sen. Michelle Stennett—all Democrats, who now have to determine whether to seek re-election to two-year terms in the November 2022 election.
Idaho’s congressional districts are represented by Rep. Russ Fulcher (1st District) and Rep. Mike Simpson (2nd District). Both are Republicans. Blaine County is in the 2nd District.
The plan’s final step will be approval by the Supreme Court in time for the candidates’ filing period for the 2022 primaries. Court challenges, if any, could delay things.
