The New Moms Group provides newborn and breastfeeding support and an opportunity to ask questions and learn the basics of raising babies. The presence of professionals, as well as other new parents, makes this group a comfortable and valuable experience. Attendees are invited to bring lunch and their child.<\/p>\n

Company of Fools will present the riveting drama \u201cGrounded\u201d by award-winning playwright George Brant at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey. Heartbreaking and beautiful, the play follows an ace fighter pilot whose career in the sky takes an unexpected turn due to pregnancy. Relocated to operate military drones from a windowless trailer outside Las Vegas, the pilot uses drones to hunt terrorists by day and then drives home to her family each night. Hanna Cheek will return to COF to play The\u00a0Pilot. Named one of\u00a0Time Out New York’s\u00a0“Future Legends of NYC Theatre”\u00a0in 2013, Cheek has previously been seen at COF in \u201cProof,\u201d\u00a0\u201cOther Desert Cities\u201d\u00a0and \u201cCommencement.\u201d<\/p>\n

This will be the first production Company of Fools has done in the round, with the audience completely surrounding the playing area. Seating is limited to 60 patrons per performance. Tickets for \u201cGrounded\u201d are $35 for full price, $25 for seniors and members of The Center, and $15 for students (18 and under). Annual Economic Summit<\/b><\/p>\n

Join the community on Thursday, Oct. 6 to learn, network and engage with Sun Valley Economic Development at their fifth annual economic summit. The summit is intended for the business, government and nonprofit community and has become the go-to community business event. This year, the summit will explore \u201cThe Intersection of Housing and Talent Attraction\u201d as its theme. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sun Valley Inn\u2019s Limelight Room.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s summit will operate differently than previous years. The focus of the day will be on three interactive panels between moderators, panelists and the audience. Twenty panelists from varying fields and varying perspectives will provide input. The panels will explore different perspectives on the community\u2019s housing-talent challenges and opportunities in the categories of \u201cBusiness\/Employer,\u201d \u201cDeveloper\/Builder\u201d and \u201cRegulatory Authority.\u201d<\/p>\n

The summit will include a continental breakfast and networking session starting at 8 a.m., coffee breaks and a buffet luncheon. Tickets are $100 for the summit and can be purchased online at sunvalleyeconomy.org\/summit-schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeff Lowe’s Metanoia\u201d\u00a0is a documentary film about one man’s journey from the top of the world to the end of the line. Jeff helped make climbing what it is today, through technical innovation and more than a thousand first ascents, including “Metanoia” on the north face of the Eiger where he experienced a spiritual transformation that continues to this day. Jeff’s story inspires many, as he brings the creativity and strength that characterized his climbing career to the challenge that he faces today: his own mortality.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the screening will go to support The Jeff Lowe Mountain Foundation and the Jeffery G. Lowe Special Needs Trust. Tickets will be available at the door and at The Elephant\u2019s Perch in advance for $15 or $20 (includes two raffle tickets). The Metropolitan Opera will kick off their live broadcast season with a new production of \u201cTristan und Isolde.\u201d The doors of the Bigwood4 Cinemas in Hailey will open at 9 a.m. with mimosas and muffins to celebrate the new season. Dick Brown will give a pre-opera lecture at 9:30 a.m. The broadcast will begin at 10 a.m. The opera stars Nina Stemme as Isolde, Stuart Skelton as Tristan, Ekaterina Gubanova as Brang\u00e4ne and Ren\u00e9 Pape as King Marke. Sir Simon Rattle will conduct.<\/p>\n

Premiering in 1865,\u00a0Wagner\u2019s breathtaking meditation on love and death holds a unique place in the opera world. Its music has astounded, infuriated and inspired audiences since it was first heard, and the title roles are acknowledged as among the most extraordinarily demanding in opera. The vocal challenges, the sumptuous symphonic scale of the orchestral writing and the mystical nature of the story, with its opportunities for creative visual design, make this awe-inspiring work a phenomenon of the repertory.<\/p>\n

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) is offering a six-week outdoor after-school science program,\u00a0Science After School, at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 11, and at Bellevue Elementary School on Thursdays, starting\u00a0Oct. 13. Both programs run from\u00a02:30-4 p.m.<\/p>\n

Science After School\u00a0is a free six-week program that provides fourth-\u00a0and fifth-grade students opportunities beyond the school day to participate in project-based learning, within the context of natural science, the environment and sustainability issues. ERC staff builds opportunities for students to explore science through scientific research, exploration, collaboration, games, journaling and service learning. Hemingway\u2019s students will focus on how our actions influence the natural world through exploring topics related to sustainability, while Bellevue\u2019s students will focus on exploring the different animal habitats the Wood River Valley has to offer.<\/p>\n

Set in England during the Blitz, \u201cFront\u201d follows a number of struggling individuals and families who must come to terms with war and the horrors and tragedies it provides. Performances run Oct. 11-13 at 6 p.m., Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. and Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. All shows will take place in the WRHS Performing Arts Theater, at the Community Campus in Hailey.
