Your\u00a0rational voice matters at the school district\u00a0conversation on Thursday, June 2,\u00a0at 6:30 p.m. at Hemingway Elementary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u00a0We can all agree that \u201cEverything in the\u00a0budget should support the students\u2019 needs\u00a0for success.\u201d However, I am concerned\u00a0that the alternative budget proposal is\u00a0contrary to this goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u00a0For example, it includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p5\">Reducing administrators\u2019 salaries and benefits by 45 percent immediately. Blaine\u00a0County administrators\u2019 and teachers\u2019 salaries are in line with other ski\u00a0communities like ours. Even compared to similar districts in Idaho, they are\u00a0compensated\u00a0the same percent more for the higher living costs here. And, regardless of your\u00a0opinion about current administrator salaries and benefits,\u00a0this is an excessive\u00a0sudden reduction in an individual\u2019s income, and it could\u00a0make hiring quality\u00a0administrators in the future very difficult.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p5\">A risky renegotiation of a longstanding contract for Silverback software\u00a0royalties with no increase in revenue. A renegotiation could actually result in\u00a0lowering the revenues available to the district, and it is not worth the risk.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p5\">Paying for Mountain Rides passes for students. The school district already\u00a0provides safe, supervised transportation for all students to and from their\u00a0homes each day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">Please take the time to email\u00a0amandalachance@blaineschools.org\u00a0where you stand\u00a0on these issues, and attend the community conversation on\u00a0June 2.
