Bryce Angell – The outdoors has always been a large part of my life. My father was an outfitter and guide for 35 years and I was there to shoe and care for the horses and help him do the cooking. We took many great trips into the Yellowstone area. Even now that I\u2019m older, we still ride into the Tetons, Yellowstone and surrounding areas. My poems are mostly of personal experience. I am now retired and enjoying life to the fullest. I plan to do more riding and writing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Back in 1963, when I was ten years old. We\u2019d crowd around our television. Westerns were the mold.
\nMy father\u2019s non-negotiating rule was, \u201cGet chores done! Make sure that every animal is fed \u2018fore you have fun.\u201d
\nOnly when the cows were milked and every horse had hay, could we settle down to supper. We\u2019d be calling it a day.
\nWe were tickled silly with only one black and white TV. A television for each room would later come to be.
\nEach Saturday was Gunsmoke. Our weekly family TV show. And Sundays were Bonanza. Grandma\u2019s crush was Little Joe.
\nWe chomped down bowls of popcorn mother popped in cooking oil. She added butter melted on the stove atop tinfoil.
\nWhen sitting next to Grandma you weren\u2019t embarrassed by TV. You didn\u2019t have to scrutinize. They all were rated G.
\nThere was no TV cussing or the need to raise your brows. The only cussing Grandma heard was when we milked the cows.
\nOur families shared a closeness watching TV shows at night. The coyote versus roadrunner caused laughter\u2019s pure delight.
\nSixty years have passed and TV ain\u2019t the same today. The color and the stereo, first rate in every way.
\nYou never need to sit up close to get a perfect view. You could prob\u2019ly see the picture from the street while driving through.
\nTo buy a television is by far less cash today. But the content it delivers is so harsh in every way.
\nNow sitting next to Grandma might just be a big mistake. You\u2019d hope she wore her earplugs and at best not stay awake.
\nThe choice is in the hundreds from Netflix to any plan. I still prefer old Westerns. I\u2019ll forever be a fan.
\nThe other day I asked my grandson, \u201cEver watch John Wayne?\u201d He said, \u201cI\u2019d rather take a punch to help dull up my brain.\u201d
\nOf course, I took exception so I sat him down by me. Then found my favorite Western for the two of us to see.
\nAnd just to be for sure I didn\u2019t cause him more turmoil. Said, \u201cHow about some popcorn that we pop in cooking oil?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
