{"id":21877,"date":"2025-01-08T01:33:52","date_gmt":"2025-01-08T08:33:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/?p=21877"},"modified":"2025-01-07T14:56:33","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T21:56:33","slug":"dei-ideology-resolution-approved-by-state-board-of-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/08\/dei-ideology-resolution-approved-by-state-board-of-education\/","title":{"rendered":"DEI Ideology Resolution  Approved By State Board of Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>DEI Offices Closed<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>BY MONICA CARRILLO<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Idaho State Board of Education unanimously announced last Wednesday to keep public state colleges and universities from maintaining diversity, equity and inclusion offices.<br \/>\nThis resolution includes University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark College and impacts offices that specifically serve students of color and\/or individuals identifying as LGBTQIA.<br \/>\nThe resolution also forbids the universities from creating \u201ccentral offices, policies, procedures, or initiatives [that] are dedicated to DEI ideology,\u201d according to the text.<br \/>\n\u201cI believe our actions as a Board today are a strong signal to all Idaho students that our institutions are prepared to meet whatever needs they have when they walk through the door,\u201d said Dr. Linda Clark, president of the board. \u201cI am looking forward to seeing our universities implement these resolutions while we continue working on the issue as a Board.\u201d<br \/>\nDuring the school board meeting, Scott Green, University of Idaho school president, said he wasn\u2019t \u201csurprised\u201d when it came down to the final decision last Wednesday. He has spoken out against the resolution in the past.<br \/>\n\u201cAll students are welcome at UI,\u201d the school said in a statement.<br \/>\nThey have also added that any students impacted by the changes can call the Counseling and Mental Health Center at (208) 885-6716.<br \/>\nAccording to data from UnivStats, it says Idaho\u2019s higher education institutions have enrolled 127,063 students for the 2023-2024 academic year.<br \/>\nThis includes 15.4% of Hispanic\/Latino, 1.9% Black\/African American and 1.7% Asian \u2014 many of whom have benefited from connecting to diversity, equity and inclusion offices.<br \/>\nBoise State University has already closed their Student Equity Center and Gender Equity Center over Thanksgiving break.
