{"id":20233,"date":"2023-11-16T02:50:11","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T02:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/?p=20233"},"modified":"2023-11-16T02:50:11","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T02:50:11","slug":"young-latina-hope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/16\/young-latina-hope\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Latina Hope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>BY MONICA CARRILLO<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR VOICE COUNTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The last time I wrote about an update on my career as a journalist, I had just started at the Times-News in Twin Falls.<br \/>\nSo where am I now?<br \/>\nI am now six months in at the Times-News as the Hispanic life and affairs reporter, and it\u2019s been so incredibly fun to see Twin Falls in a different way.<br \/>\nI had grown up coming to Twin Falls from Hailey, and vice versa, from a very young age, for shopping, groceries, and events. But when you grow up going to a place, you sort of build a rhythm and go to the same places over and over again.<br \/>\nNow working as a reporter in the area, I\u2019ve gotten to know some impactful leaders in the community who are working to make Twin Falls inclusive and working to expand resources to their people \u2014 something I would have never experienced if I hadn\u2019t taken the opportunity to work at the Times-News.<br \/>\nFrom covering Hispanic businesses, a grandfather who writes bilingual children\u2019s books for his grandchildren, Glanbia Nutritionals workers learning Spanish to connect with their coworkers, to college students working toward getting young people in the Magic Valley to vote \u2014 all I can say is that I couldn\u2019t ask for a better job right out of college.<br \/>\nFor any tips or questions about my work, feel free to email me at monica.carrillo-casas@magicvalley.com or check out www.magicvalley.com for my updated work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NUESTRA VOZ CUENTA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La \u00faltima vez que escrib\u00ed sobre una actualizaci\u00f3n de mi carrera como periodista, acababa de empezar en el Times-News de Twin Falls.<br \/>\nEntonces, \u00bfd\u00f3nde estoy ahora?<br \/>\nAhora llevo seis meses en el Times-News como periodista de vida y asuntos hispanos, y ha sido incre\u00edblemente divertido ver Twin Falls de una manera diferente.<br \/>\nCrec\u00ed viniendo a Twin Falls desde Hailey y viceversa desde muy joven para venir de compras y asistir a eventos.
