{"id":19045,"date":"2022-12-14T00:15:31","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T00:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/?p=19045"},"modified":"2022-12-13T18:56:32","modified_gmt":"2022-12-13T18:56:32","slug":"monica-moscow-xperience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/14\/monica-moscow-xperience\/","title":{"rendered":"Monica Moscow Xperience!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">BY MONICA CARRILLO<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>OUR VOICE COUNTS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">I had run out of ideas of what I could pitch for the week before Thanksgiving and planned to tell my newsroom I was going to take the week off. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Then I received a text.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">I wasn\u2019t sure what I felt at that moment; I just felt shocked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">A homicide?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">I quickly got up and locked the door, closed the blinds, peeked through the window once more before heading to the farthest room in my apartment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">I thought that would be enough to feel secure \u2014 at least for a few hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">But because I\u2019m a reporter, I knew I couldn\u2019t escape it for long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Going straight into reporting the next day based on the little information we had, I interviewed reactions of the community and the tragedy that struck the students at the University of Idaho.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">But the moment I had a free day, I broke down and felt panic when I was left alone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Who did this? Why? How?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s still been a mystery in the small town of Moscow and only continues to be the center of many conversations in my newsroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Since then, that\u2019s been the main focus of my writing, but also the main focus in my thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">As I continue my journey as a reporter, this was my first experience covering a story like this and I only hope that I won\u2019t have to go through this again anytime soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m okay now. This all just sucks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>NUESTRA VOZ CUENTA<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s2\">Me hab\u00eda quedado sin ideas de lo que pod\u00eda lanzar para la semana antes de Acci\u00f3n de Gracias y planeaba decirle a mi sala de prensa que iba a tomar la semana libre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Pero horas despues, recib\u00ed un texto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">No estaba segura de lo que sent\u00eda en ese momento; s\u00f3lo me sent\u00ed sorprendida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00bfUn homicidio?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">R\u00e1pidamente me levant\u00e9 y cerr\u00e9 la puerta, cerr\u00e9 las persianas, mir\u00e9 por la ventana una vez m\u00e1s antes de dirigirme a la habitaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s alejada de mi apartamento.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Pens\u00e9 que eso ser\u00eda suficiente para sentirme segura, al menos por unas horas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Pero como soy reportera, sab\u00eda que no pod\u00eda escapar por mucho tiempo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Yendo directamente a informar al d\u00eda siguiente basado en la poca informaci\u00f3n que ten\u00edamos, entrevist\u00e9 las reacciones de la comunidad y la tragedia que embarcaron los estudiantes de la Universidad de Idaho.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Pero en el momento en que tuve un d\u00eda libre, me derrumb\u00e9 y sent\u00ed p\u00e1nico cuando me qued\u00e9 solo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00bfQui\u00e9n lo hizo? \u00bfPor qu\u00e9? \u00bfC\u00f3mo?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Todav\u00eda ha sido un misterio en la peque\u00f1a ciudad de Moscow, Idaho y solo sigue siendo el centro de muchas conversaciones en mi sala de redacci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s3\">Desde entonces, ese ha sido el foco principal de mi escritura, pero tambi\u00e9n el foco principal en mis pensamientos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">A medida que contin\u00fao mi viaje como reportera, esta fue mi primera experiencia cubriendo una historia como esta y solo espero no tener que volver a pasar por esto pronto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Estoy bien ahora.
