Bryce Angell – The outdoors has always been a large part of my life. My father was an outfitter and guide for 35 years and I was there to shoe and care for the horses and help him do the cooking. We took many great trips into the Yellowstone area. Even now that I\u2019m older, we still ride into the Tetons, Yellowstone and surrounding areas. My poems are mostly of personal experience. I am now retired and enjoying life to the fullest. I plan to do more riding and writing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

My eyes are\u00a0glued up to the shelf, a brand-new pair of Mucks.\u00a0They\u2019d be in my possession, but I lack the certain bucks.<\/p>\n

I could go without my Pepsi for a month or maybe two.\u00a0But the headache would be pounding like a freight train passin\u2019 through.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got my Visa plastic for emergencies and such. The boots are kinda spendy.\u00a0Do I really care that much?<\/p>\n

\u00a0I grab my precious cargo and I\u2019m tingling to my roots.\u00a0The clerk says, \u201cHundred eighty.\u201d\u00a0Must be gold in them there boots!<\/p>\n

To purchase I can justify.\u00a0It\u2019s more than just a treat.\u00a0No more sittin\u2019 in the saddle with my cold and frozen feet.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve waited days to wear them.\u00a0Time to saddle up Ol\u2019 Blue.\u00a0But my boots won\u2019t fit the stirrups.\u00a0What\u2019s a broke cowboy to do?<\/p>\n

The boots ain\u2019t never goin\u2019 back.\u00a0I burned the dang receipt.\u00a0My wife will never know the cost.\u00a0Is that what\u2019s called deceit?<\/p>\n

The co-op might be open.\u00a0I\u2019ve seen stirrups there to buy.\u00a0They close at 6:00.\u00a0It\u2019s 6:05.\u00a0No use to even try.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll drive out to the shoppin\u2019 mall.\u00a0They\u2019ve got a Western store.\u00a0But their prices are extravagant, not for the country poor.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m riflin\u2019 through the stirrups.\u00a0Find a pair that fits my Mucks.\u00a0I take \u2018em to the clerk.\u00a0She says, \u201cTwo hundred twenty bucks.\u201d<\/p>\n

This time I cough and choke on down my Wrigley\u2019s Spearmint chew.\u00a0The clerk said, \u201cSure they\u2019re spendy, but they\u2019re made for guys like you.\u201d<\/p>\n

I wonder what she meant \u2018cuz I ain\u2019t got the cash to spare.\u00a0I swear she meant hi-rollers with their nose up in the air.<\/p>\n

Still, I bought the brand-new stirrups with my plastic, once again.\u00a0Does it hurt to use my Visa card, every now and then?<\/p>\n

The smuggish patrons, back in line, are giving me the stare.\u00a0They\u2019re prob\u2019ly thinkin\u2019, \u201cPoor cowboy.\u201d\u00a0I hurry out of there!<\/p>\n

I\u2019m addin\u2019 up my purchases.\u00a0Looks like four hundred bucks.\u00a0And with the Gov\u2019ner\u2019s share I\u2019m in the class of stupid clucks.<\/p>\n

I burned the Visa card receipt.\u00a0That\u2019s safe from where I stand.\u00a0I\u2019m wonderin\u2019 now if my warm feet are worth the half a grand?<\/p>\n
