A rich blend of food filled the air and into the streets of Wood River.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Then, suddenly, in the back you can hear Leonardo Padilla announcing the headlines with a calm and excited tone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Hispanic Heritage Festival had officially begun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Leonardo Padilla, originally from Peru and respected among the Peruvian community, was this year\u2019s co-host of the festival alongside Herbert Romero, community organizer of the Wood River Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Padilla, who has done Zumba lessons throughout the Valley, has also been working as a math tutor at The Space, a nonprofit organization that helps with educational resources and as a Spanish\/English tutor through libraries, such as the Hailey Public Library and The Community Library.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Padilla was excited when he was asked about co-hosting this year\u2019s festival and didn\u2019t hesitate to accept the offer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cI was already excited about the events before [Romero] had asked me,\u201d Padilla said. \u201cBut then when he asked me, I was like, \u2018Yeah, why not?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">By the end of the event, Padilla was amazed by getting to know various associations and local businesses that appreciated the work he and Romero had been doing for the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cAll these businesses appreciated the way we not only have been able to make this event happen, but also help their businesses grow,\u201d Padilla said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">In addition, Padilla appreciated having the Latinx community at the forefront of organizing and through food vendors and made him feel like he and others \u201creally belong to this community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cI am honored to have been chosen for this,\u201d Padilla said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>NUESTRA VOZ CUENTA<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Una mezcla de idiomas llen\u00f3 el ambiente a medida que llegaban familiares y amigos. Una rica mezcla de comida llen\u00f3 el aire y las calles de Wood River.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Entonces, de repente, en la parte de atr\u00e1s se puede escuchar a Leonardo Padilla, anunciando los titulares con un tono tranquilo y emocionado.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">El Festival de la Herencia Hispana hab\u00eda comenzado oficialmente.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Leonardo Padilla, originario de Per\u00fa y respetado entre la comunidad peruana, fue el co-anfitri\u00f3n del festival este a\u00f1o junto a Herbert Romero, organizador comunitario del Valle del R\u00edo Wood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Padilla, quien ha hecho clases de zumba en todo el valle, tambi\u00e9n ha estado trabajando como tutor de matem\u00e1ticas en The Space, una organizaci\u00f3n sin fines de lucro que ayuda con recursos educativos y como tutor de espa\u00f1ol \/ ingl\u00e9s a trav\u00e9s de bibliotecas, como la Biblioteca P\u00fablica de Hailey y la Biblioteca Comunitaria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Padilla se emocion\u00f3 cuando se le pregunt\u00f3 sobre el co-anfitri\u00f3n del festival de este a\u00f1o y no dud\u00f3 en aceptar la oferta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cYa estaba entusiasmado con los eventos antes de que [Romero] me lo hubiera pedido,\u201d dijo Padilla. \u201cPero luego, cuando me pregunt\u00f3, dije \u2018s\u00ed, \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 no?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Al final del evento, Padilla se sorprendi\u00f3 al conocer varias asociaciones y empresas locales que apreciaron el trabajo que \u00e9l y Romero hab\u00edan estado haciendo para el evento.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cTodas estas empresas apreciaron la forma en que no solo hemos podido hacer que este evento suceda, sino que tambi\u00e9n ayudamos a que sus negocios crezcan,\u201d dijo Padilla.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Adem\u00e1s, Padilla apreci\u00f3 tener a la comunidad latina a la vanguardia de la organizaci\u00f3n y a trav\u00e9s de los vendedores de alimentos y lo hizo sentir que \u00e9l y otros \u201crealmente pertenecemos a esta comunidad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cMe siento honrado de haber sido elegido para esto,\u201d dijo Padilla.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY MONICA CARRILLO OUR VOICE COUNTS A mix of languages filled the atmosphere as families and friends arrived.
