{"id":18493,"date":"2022-08-24T00:30:43","date_gmt":"2022-08-24T00:30:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/?p=18493"},"modified":"2022-08-23T19:53:06","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T19:53:06","slug":"hispanic-housing-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/24\/hispanic-housing-reality\/","title":{"rendered":"HISPANIC HOUSING REALITY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">BY MONICA CARRILLO<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>OUR VOICE COUNTS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Herbert Romero, community organizer in the Blaine County area, expresses concerns over housing situations in the Wood River area as phone calls continue. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">With housing becoming a hard guarantee for many members of the Valley, Romero voices his concerns for families in Blaine County as he continues to get phone calls about getting evicted or not being able to find stable housing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Romero and other nonprofits have found that many of these families that are coming in are being brought in by other families, being told that there are various job opportunities but also not explaining the difficulties of finding a home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe biggest concern that we have right now is that families are inviting other families to this Valley, knowing the housing crisis that is going on,\u201d Romero said. \u201cNeighbors Helping Neighbors, The HispanicUS TaskForce, Blaine County Charitable Fund, and the Blaine County Housing Authority all are doing their best to help, but if you bring in a family from somewhere else, you have to bear everything with them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Romero believes that families bringing in other family members have hope that they will find housing, but it\u2019s not fair when they don\u2019t.
