Bryce Angell – The outdoors has always been a large part of my life. My father was an outfitter and guide for 35 years and I was there to shoe and care for the horses and help him do the cooking. We took many great trips into the Yellowstone area. Even now that I\u2019m older, we still ride into the Tetons, Yellowstone and surrounding areas. My poems are mostly of personal experience. I am now retired and enjoying life to the fullest. I plan to do more riding and writing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I opened up my pocketknife and cut a piece of cheese. The blade was sharp enough to shave and sliced the cheese with ease.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My good wife asked me, \u201cHave you ever washed your knife with soap?\u201d I slightly hesitated, then I answered with a \u201cNope!\u201d<\/p>\n

And then she said, \u201cI wonder what your knife\u2019s been in today?\u201d I had to think a minute, but as far as I could say,<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, Old Cyruss had a nasty sore that oozed a bit of pus. So, I sliced it with my pocketknife. Now there ain\u2019t no need to fuss.<\/p>\n

\u201cCuz I wiped the blade across my shirt between the spurts of goo. That sore had built up pressure, squirted out from here to you.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cut a month of cockleburs right off the mane and tail. Whoa, you better take a load off, hon. You\u2019re lookin\u2019 mighty pale.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sliver that was festerin\u2019 alongside my big toe, well, I dug it with my pocketknife. There ain\u2019t much left to show.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd talk about my toe, I got a nasty case of gout. But still opened up my pocketknife and cleaned my toenails out.\u201d<\/p>\n

My Old Timer knife ain\u2019t pretty. It has lost its shiny hue. I\u2019ve sharpened it so many times the blade is half worn through.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d have to say in my lifetime ain\u2019t found a better tool. And if you\u2019ve never had a knife, well, maybe you\u2019re the fool.<\/p>\n

My father gave me my first knife when I turned eight years old. The finest gift I\u2019d ever had, meant more to me than gold.<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t guess how many knives I\u2019ve worn out since that time. Or restored an old and lost one found amidst the dirt and grime.<\/p>\n

I never leave the house without my pocketknife at hand. To me it\u2019s more than \u00a0 <\/span>just a knife. No need to understand.<\/p>\n

So, don\u2019t you fret none \u2018bout my knife. I know you think it\u2019s rank. I soaked it deep in alcohol. The brand your uncle drank.<\/p>\n

And if you\u2019re wonderin\u2019 did I throw your uncle\u2019s booze away? Well, I did one even better, chugged the last drop down today.<\/p>\n
