However, there was still so much to keep building on after Hurricane Maria, especially socially and economically, and it was quite an experience getting to learn about all the issues happening in the territory without much help from the United States. As I walked through the streets of San Juan, there was always something political written on the walls or the sidewalks that truly had me stop for hours reading through their struggles and hardships.

Nevertheless, the people there were always helping one another out, making sure that everyone was comfortable and safe. Anytime I needed directions or wanted some advice on places that I should explore, they were constantly welcoming and making sure that I had the directions that I needed.

After being home for a few days, I already miss the beach and beautiful San Juan and am so incredibly grateful that I have had this opportunity. Now, for next year, I hope to finish at the University of Idaho with majors in Spanish and Journalism and a minor in International Studies.

NUESTRA VOZ CUENTA
