Bryce Angell – The outdoors has always been a large part of my life. My father was an outfitter and guide for 35 years and I was there to shoe and care for the horses and help him do the cooking. We took many great trips into the Yellowstone area. Even now that I\u2019m older, we still ride into the Tetons, Yellowstone and surrounding areas. My poems are mostly of personal experience. I am now retired and enjoying life to the fullest. I plan to do more riding and writing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I checked the evening news and heard a politician say, \u201cHe\u2019s just a farmer out there, sitting on his bale of hay.\u201d<\/p>\n

I took exception to the politician\u2019s choice of words. And wondered did he have a clue? He sounded so absurd.<\/p>\n

The man that he was funning might not be the world\u2019s charmer. But I\u2019d appreciate a different tone when saying, \u201cJust a farmer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Cuz \u2018just a farmer\u2019 raised me up since I was mere a boy. He taught me how to show respect and never to annoy.<\/p>\n

\u2018Just a farmer,\u2019 where I\u2019m from, grows food to feed us all. At night he\u2019ll be home on his knees, asking for rainfall.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 <\/span>When you\u2019re frying eggs and bacon after climbing out of bed, remember \u2018just a farmer\u2019 helps to keep your children fed.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t matter what you\u2019re eating, any time of day. The food that\u2019s on your plate is how the farmer gets his pay.<\/p>\n

He prays his harvest pays the bills, a hefty year\u2019s price tag. If he makes some extra cash, he\u2019ll accept it without brag.<\/p>\n

\u2018Just a farmer\u2019 won\u2019t sleep in. He\u2019s up before first ray. Nine to five to him is only working half a day.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll see him baling hay at night. He burns the midnight oil. \u2018Just a farmer\u2019 is the sole caretaker of his soil.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s learned to grow his crops. Been educated through the years. He takes the good years and the bad with smiles and sometimes tears.<\/p>\n

\u2018Just a farmer\u2019 dairyman keeps moo juice on the flow, so you can have a glass of milk to dip your Oreo.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s not forget ice cream. To go without, it sure would bite. Let\u2019s thank the farmer for the Rocky Road we eat at night.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u2018just a farmer\u2019 that I know is quiet and reserved. He\u2019ll always pass to someone else the credit he deserved.<\/p>\n

So, when you\u2019re talking farmer, show respect that\u2019s way past due. \u2018Cuz if it weren\u2019t for farmers, you\u2019d be missing a meal or two.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
