The impact it had for the Alturas Elementary School children and faculty was extraordinary. They presented Huerta with a beautiful outdoor reception, alongside poems, pictures, banners and a warm welcome. She spoke to all who were at Alturas Elementary, especially the children, about them having the power to inspire hope and change within the people of the community.

After leaving Alturas Elementary, we went to Wood River High School, where Huerta again received a warm welcome.

All members there were extremely ready to have her and to listen to her words of wisdom. Key clubs at the high school, such as Nosotros United, Amnesty International and faculty, prepared speeches, questions and words of appreciation for Huerta to honor her presence and her work.

Before ending the day, we headed to the Sun Valley Inn to wrap it up with a special dinner, reminding ourselves that this March is Women’s Month and Cesar Chavez Service Day. Continuing the momentum is crucial.

Huerta saw a packed event where she reinforced and empowered the women with the message of hope in la lucha (the struggle) and happiness and also had a strong representation from the Hispanic Latin leadership and neighboring communities from Boise, Burley, Twin Falls, Jerome, Caldwell and Shoshone. Other parts of the community, business leaders and nonprofits were being represented as well.

Huerta spoke with power, passion and compassion to the audience, so much that she received a standing ovation and a loud si se puede! It was incredible to be able to see and honor in person someone like her.

I would like to thank the Crisis Hotline, COX, H. Property Service, Idaho Commissioner on Hispanic Affairs, S.C. Hispanic Chamber, La Perrona, Women Business Center, Flourish Foundation Compassionate Leaders, Alliance, The Hunger Coalition, Education Fund, and the Blaine County Charitable Fund.

NUESTRA VOZ CUENTA
