{"id":16506,"date":"2021-08-11T01:57:34","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T01:57:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/?p=16506"},"modified":"2021-08-10T21:02:10","modified_gmt":"2021-08-10T21:02:10","slug":"restoring-wood-river-talk-set-for-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodriverweekly.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/11\/restoring-wood-river-talk-set-for-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Restoring Wood River Talk Set For Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hailey Public Library will host \u201cRestoring the Wood River to Health\u201d via Zoom on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 5:30 p.m. In this fourth talk in the Our Water series, Wood River Land Trust restoration specialist Ryan Santo will examine factors that reduce quality fish and wildlife habitat and current restoration efforts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe healthier the Big Wood River is, the better it\u2019s able to slow and retain water during dry spells. This increases water quality and helps maintain a vibrant riparian ecosystem for people and wildlife,\u201d said Kristin Fletcher, the library\u2019s programs and community engagement coordinator. \u201cThe river is one of our community\u2019s crown jewels and the Land Trust is working hard to apply cutting-edge science to their river restoration work.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Santo is the restoration specialist for the WRLT. Originally from New Jersey, he graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree in fisheries and aquaculture from the State University of New York, Cobleskill. He has spent the last 14 years monitoring endangered salmon and steelhead populations in the Snake and Upper Columbia River basins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ryan has worked throughout the Northwest with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and, more recently, with the Nez Perce Tribe. At the Land Trust, Ryan implements water conservation and habitat rehabilitation projects.
