Photo credit: Fernando Hurtado<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">W<\/span><span class=\"s1\">hile other kids of the Latinx community take interest in common sports of their culture, like soccer, Octavio, age 12, and Fernanda, age 10, have taken a different route and are expanding their interests by skiing with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Although now living in Shoshone, Octavio at the time was 6 years old and attending Hemingway Elementary when he was introduced to the sport of skiing. With the help of Mimi Crocker, the director of finance and administration for the SVSEF, Octavio was able to receive help and feel safe to be a part of what can be a dangerous sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe were asked about our children and what they do outside of school,\u201d Fernando, Octavio\u2019s father, said. \u201cAnd because we didn\u2019t know anything about skiing, we were nervous for them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Octavio\u2019s sister also joined the SVSEF at the age of 6, which their parents explain has been an amazing experience for both of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis has been a totally different experience for and different from our Hispanic culture,\u201d Fernando said. \u201cBut it\u2019s also been beautiful to see them branch out and be a part of a new experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Octavio and Fernanda\u2019s family deeply appreciate SVSEF but, most specifically, Mimi Crocker, SVSEF executive director Scott Mcgrew, and all the coaches that work hard to teach these kids the art of skiing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>NUESTRA VOZ CUENTA<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Mientras que otros ni\u00f1os de la comunidad latina se interesan por los deportes comunes de su cultura, como el f\u00fatbol, Octavio, de 12 a\u00f1os, y Fernanda, de 10, han tomado una ruta diferente y en ampliar sus intereses esquiando con la Fundaci\u00f3n de Educaci\u00f3n de Esqu\u00ed de Sun Valley (SVSEF).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\">Aunque ahora vive en Shoshone, ID, Octavio en ese momento ten\u00eda 6 a\u00f1os y asist\u00eda a Hemingway Elementary cuando se introdujo en el deporte del esqu\u00ed.
