I interviewed a local man this week to see what has changed in his life since the events of the last two weeks\u2014the pandemic, the death of George Floyd, the subsequent protests and demonstrations throughout the world, unemployment, and the mood of the country:<\/p>\n

– So, what is your opinion about the events in this country and the world?<\/p>\n

– What are you talking about?<\/p>\n

– Well, for one, the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

– Oh, I don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

– You don\u2019t care about the pandemic and its effect on the people of the world?<\/p>\n

– Not really.<\/p>\n

– Well, at least do you observe proper distancing and wear a mask?<\/p>\n

– No.<\/p>\n

– You don\u2019t wear a mask?<\/p>\n

– Not since Halloween.<\/p>\n

– Do you stay at least six feet from others?<\/span><\/p>\n

– No. I just walk through them if they\u2019re in my way.<\/p>\n

– But what if you have the virus?<\/p>\n

– Well, they better get out of my way, shouldn\u2019t they?<\/p>\n

– But\u2026<\/p>\n

– Hey, I don\u2019t have any disease. I know my own body.<\/p>\n

– But you could be a carrier.<\/p>\n

– So could my cat. It\u2019s all a hoax.<\/p>\n

– A hoax?<\/p>\n

– Yeah. It\u2019s coming out of China\u2019s Wuhan Valley.<\/p>\n

– You believe that?<\/p>\n

– Yes, I do.<\/p>\n

– Let\u2019s change the subject. Do you believe in \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d?<\/p>\n

– I believe in \u201cMy Life Matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

– What about the death of George Floyd?<\/p>\n

– Sorry to hear that.<\/p>\n

– Really?<\/p>\n

– No.<\/p>\n

– No? Haven\u2019t the protest marches and demonstrations affected you in any way?<\/p>\n

– No.<\/p>\n

– No?!<\/p>\n

– Good TV, though.<\/p>\n

– How can you be so apathetic by all this?<\/p>\n

– Practice.<\/p>\n

– Practice?<\/p>\n

– Uh, yeah. I don\u2019t let anything bother me if it\u2019s not about me.<\/p>\n

– You know, people would say that is incredibly\u00a0selfish.<\/p>\n

– Yeah. I don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

– What about unemployment. Do you have a job?<\/p>\n

– No. I\u2019m on unemployment compensation\u2026 get a check every two weeks.<\/p>\n

– And, you can live on that?<\/p>\n

– Sure. I got a stimulus check and I might get another one soon.<\/p>\n

– Have you been looking for a job?<\/p>\n

– No one\u2019s hiring.<\/p>\n

– What do you do for work?<\/p>\n

– I\u2019m a shepherd.<\/p>\n

– Come on!<\/p>\n

– Okay, I\u2019m just kidding.<\/p>\n

– What do you really do?<\/p>\n

– I\u2019m an environment defacer.<\/p>\n

– What?!<\/p>\n

– Hey, if it wasn\u2019t for me, all those \u201cSave the Whales\u201d people would be out of work.<\/p>\n

– So, you don\u2019t care about the environment, the pandemic, unemployment and police brutality?<\/p>\n

– In a word… no.<\/p>\n

– How can you live with yourself?<\/p>\n

– Just fine.<\/p>\n

– Just yourself?<\/p>\n

– Right.<\/p>\n

– And you\u2019re fine with that?<\/p>\n

– It\u2019s \u201call the\u00a0much\u201d I have.<\/p>\n

– What about friends, family?<\/p>\n

– I don\u2019t care about them. They have their own problems. I leave them alone.<\/p>\n

– What about everyone else on the planet?<\/p>\n

– What about them?<\/p>\n

– What if they said they didn\u2019t care, either?<\/p>\n

– That\u2019s up to them. I really don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

– Well, I think I\u2019ll have to end this interview right now!<\/p>\n

– Knock yourself out.<\/p>\n

– I just can\u2019t understand your apathetic and rebellious stance on everything that\u2019s wrong in the world.<\/p>\n

– Did I mention that I don\u2019t care?<\/p>\n

– Hey, we\u2019re all in this together!<\/p>\n

– No, we\u2019re not! You\u2019re all in that together. I just don\u2019t care!<\/p>\n

Folks, this is an example of the selfishness of mankind. We must rally together and \u201cMake America Love Again.\u201d Or do you really not care?<\/p>\n
